Katakolon - Archaeological Site - Hiking in Olympia
This tour is aimed towards lovers of hiking and combines the visit to the archaeological site of Olympia with a hiking trail of moderate difficulty which lasts around 30 minutes.
The excursion starts from the Port of Katakolon. Then we will head to the village of Ancient Olympia where you will visit the Sanctuary of Olympia archaeological site where the famous Olympic Games were held. The Archaeological Site of Olympia is one of the most important worldwide as it continues to give to mankind the Olympic flame and the message of sportsmanship and sacred world truce . In the archaeological area, there is the wide range of sports and religious buildings of the ancient world such as the Temple of Zeus ( the largest temple in the Peloponnese ) , the Philippeion , the Temple of Hera , the Stadium , the Palestra and many other sights to admire.
Upon completion of the tour to the archaeological site, our professional escort will guide you for a hike along the path by the KLADEOS river . The trail is called "Kladeos "because a large part of it passes along the Kladeos river. The trail is of moderate difficulty and it takes 30 minutes until the first exit and one hour to finish. The path is known for its natural beauty and is fully signposted by the Naturalist Society of Ancient Olympia.
